read

Hello, my name is: Emma Woodhouse.
I began making up a book list this summer, knowing I would probably never finish it, or even start it - in the usual way.  But then something marvelous happened, my dear blog.  I ran across a great blog where lots of people's reading lists are collected and seeing so many people so industriously working away at their lists filled me with zeal.
Some of these books are just for fun, most I've begun and never finished, some are new adventures altogether.  I own all but a few of these, which (theoretically) will make the reading easier - no hunting in the Library or buying - and I've tried to keep the list short-ish.  We'll see what happens, if anything does.

It is finished.

Walden
A Shropshire Lad - Sad. Very, very good, but sad.
Miracles
The Problem of Pain
Mere Christianity - Wow.  I don't even know what to say.
The Abolition of Man
The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights - Kelsey. Just finish this thing. COME ON.
The Wind in the Willows - too lovely for words.  I'm so glad I'd never read it until now.
Three Bags Full
Right Ho, Jeeves
Leaves of Grass
The Waste-Land - Reading the notes on it and seeing all the literary allusions he makes is staggering.
The Catcher in the Rye
A Midsummer Night's Dream
England, My England  - halfway there.
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - Weird.  I don't think I'd care to see it.
Jane Austen's History of England
The Elements of Style
The Case for Faith
The Hobbit - how nice
All Quiet on the Western Front
Long Day's Journey into Night - Liked it.  There's obviously some story behind it that I don't know about.  Seemed genuine, and gave me things to think about.  Sad.
Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow
Other Colors - AHHH! I am so freakishly close to finishing. Marvelous and somewhat life-changing, by the way.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
This Side of Paradise  - OH MY GOSH. BEYOND GREAT.
The Innocents Abroad
Brave New World  Why am I so amazed when I enjoy famously great books?
Lady Susan
At the Back of the North Wind -  Lovely. Has a lot to it.

  1. Thanks for posting. I trust your judgement, and I need someone to tell me what to read!

  5. Be glad to!
I know I'm not getting it all, but I'm really enjoying the Waste-Land. The language sort of sucks me in and I forget to pay attention. Definitely one to re-read.
